Ceramic tile, or non-porcelain tile, is generally made from red or white clay and fired in a kiln. They are most frequently finished with a durable glaze (unglazed quarry tile is the exception) which gives the tile its color and pattern. These tiles are used in both wall and floor applications and are softer and easier to cut than porcelain tile. They usually have a P.E.I. rating of 0 to 3.
